Lofthouse Cowpea is a resilient and diverse landrace variety bred for early maturity and adaptability in challenging climates. Originally developed by plant breeder Joseph Lofthouse in the high desert of Utah, this stunningly diverse population ensures reliable production across various growing conditions.
Traditionally, cowpeas (black-eyed peas) have been difficult to mature in short-season climates, but this variety has proven itself at elevation, making it an excellent choice for northern growers. We’ve continued Lofthouse’s work, selecting for even earlier maturity to make this cowpea an essential addition to any adaptable and productive garden.
Cowpeas are highly versatile and can be eaten fresh as green beans or dried for use in soups, salads, and even salsas. Their mild, creamy texture and rich flavor make them a staple ingredient in many traditional dishes.
Grow Lofthouse Cowpea for a robust, adaptable, and early-producing variety that thrives in a range of environments!
